this is the site you want to visit. It contains links to almost every major dance
company, dance school and college, and much more. If you're into ballet, you owe
it to yourself to visit CyberDance.
Dance Criticism : actually a doctoral dissertation regarding the philosophical problems
encountered in dance criticism. Very well done -- but younger students will need
parental help to understand most of the content.
Resources for Dance : started by videographer Amy Reusch, this page provides links
to every imaginable aspect of dance. Impressive.
Sapphire Swan : contains helpful links to sites specializing in specific dance styles.

English (Grammar / Composition / Essays)

Basic Guide to Essay Writing : a very easy-to-navigate site that provides clear
instructions on how to write a good essay.
Biography Maker : This site is sweet! If you need to write a biographical report about
some one, this site will give you EXACTLY the information and the steps (four of
them) that you need to write an excellent report. When using this site, be sure to
click the "Start up the Biography Maker" link.
Elements of Style : this is THE definitive source on how to write understandable, tight,
and grammatically correct sentences and paragraphs. If you want to learn how to
write well, this is the place to start! Recommended.
Essays: Planning, Organizing, and Presenting : A very good source where you'll learn
not only how to write essays, but you'll also learn about different types of essays
that you can write.
Grammar Bytes! : an awesome interactive site that provides you with excellent
instructions regarding the parts of speech and writing. And, what's really cool is that
this site has interactive exercises that teach you about the parts of speech -- and
have fun while learning them. Recommended.
Grammar, Punctuation, Spelling : this Purdue University site offers LOTS of good
information that you can use to get a better grip on how to write better in English.
Guide to Grammar and Writing : a terrific site that allows you to "zero in" on what level
of grammer you want to learn more about (word level, sentence level, paragraph level,
and so forth). A very good grammar site! Recommended.
On-line English Grammar : if you need help with modifiers, determiners, pronouns, and
just about any other part of English grammar, you'll find some good explanations
here. Note that this site can be a bit overwhelming though -- so, if you're a middle
school student, you may need to have a parent or older sibling assist you with
understanding some of the examples.
Punctuation (The Blue Book) : This site focuses on how to use periods, apostrophes,
semi-colons, and other forms of punctuation. Here, you'll find good examples that
explain when to use specific punctuation elements. Be sure to click the drop-down
menu to get good information regarding how to use punctuation elements.


Legal Issues
(Censorship vs. Freedom of  Speech & Expression)
Banned Books On-line : an informative and disturbing review of many of the major
works of literature that, at one time or another, were (and may still be) targetted for
censorship by the enemies of freedom of expression.
Electronic Frontier Association : get the latest news about how governments, religious
organizations, political organizations, and special interest groups try to deny your
"freedom to know" by censoring what you can view, read, and listen to on the
Internet. A bit scarey -- and excellent material for a homework report on modern
politics!
Free Expression Network : easy-to-understand news reports about the latest
government and organizational efforts to deny freedom of expression to people and
groups that challenge the status quo. Primarily covers U.S. freedom of speech
issues.
FreeMuse -- Freedom of Musical Expression : an interesting web page with a
European perspective on the limitations of free expression through music.
Thomas Jefferson Center's "Muzzle Awards" : neat site that highlights efforts by
government officials and private individuals to prevent freedom of expression in the
arts and other areas. Thought-provoking and a kinda scary.

Creative Writing for Teens : a good resource for teens and young adults who need
ideas and tips on how to write fiction and non-fiction stories.
Elements of Style at Bartleby.com: an on-line version of  the classic writing guide by
Strunk and White. Still the best guide of its type anywhere!
Free E-books : a truly incredible selection of free classic literature. If you don't already
have it, you will need to download Microsoft Reader (also available for free at the
site) in order to read the e-books you download. This is a "must visit" site operated
by the University of Virginia. Highly recommended.
Great Books : still more free classics! A magnificent collection of literature that includes
many classics of philosophy and historical studies. Recommended.

modifiers, subject-verb agreement, and all other major aspects of grammar.

influential film and television critics. This site also contains recommended links to
some of their best reviews -- terrific stuff for students who want to learn how to
criticize movies and television!
Movie Reviews at RottenTomatoes.com : Would you like to learn how to criticize
movies? Well then, this is a great site to visit as it has TONS of reviews that you
can read for fun and study. Use the site's "Search" feature to find reviews on almost
      any movie you can think of. This site is a total blast!

Eric Weisstein's Treasure Trove of Music : a good site that provides "to-the-point"
information on musical notes and chords, instruments, time intervals, and much
more.
"Music" at The Ancient World Web : good links to all kinds of things related to music
in ancient cultures.
"Music" at The Awesome Library : links to sites regarding almost every major aspect
of music. Be sure to check the links in their "Lists" section!
"Music History 102" at the Internet Public Library : a concise, but very informative
history of classical Western music from the Middle Ages through the 20th Century.
Music Notes : a really cool and fun site where you can learn basic music theory as well
as get information on musical instruments -- including a brief history of
those instruments!
"Music Theory" at Yahoo : excellent links to dozens of sites related to various
theories of music.

Opera
History of Opera : a really narly looking site -- but one that has a terrific review of the
major events in the history of opera. If you need a good overview of opera, its
genres, its main historical artists and works, this is a good (if visually
unappealing) resource.
Quick History of Opera : a nice opera site maintained by the British Broadcasting
Company (BBC). Here, you'll find all kinds of useful information regarding the
definition, purpose, and history of opera. Recommended.
U. S. Opera : a good site that contains essentially everything that you want to know
about opera in the United States. They even have an up-to-date timeline of U. S.
opera history!
