Collapse: Why Do Civilizations Fall? : a nice site devoted to examining why the
Maya, the Mesopotamian, and other civilizations vanished. Well done.
E-Museum : a cool "virtual" museum where you can study numerous past civilizations.
Ethnology, Ethnography and Anthropology : a terrific resource for advanced students.
Here, you'll find all kinds of articles, data, and links to related sites. Younger
students will need parental assistance as this site can be a bit overwhelming.
Human Origins Program : a very nicely designed site that provides concise insights
into the study of human evolution.
Mesoweb : a gorgeous and easy-to-understand site devoted to the study of ancient
Central and South American cultures. If you want to learn about the Mayans, the
Inca, and other mesoamerican cultures, this is a great place to start!

Civil Disobedience (Protest Movements)
Act Up : an informative web site devoted to the practice of effective, non-violent protest
practices. Fascinating and useful stuff here!
Civil Disobedience : Indiana University's on-line version of Henry David Thoreau's classic
treatise on social protest. Not much to look at to be sure -- but extremely important
for any homework project regarding social protests.
Social Protest links from About.com : a great place to start research on the many
groups and causes that use protests and other forms of civil disobedience to get

world's counties. The descriptions of each country also contain a brief, but
informative, history of the country. Recommended.
C. I. A. World Fact Book : use the "Country Listing" at this site to find all kinds of great
information on any country in the world. Highly recommended.
"History of the World" at About.com : actually, this is more like "the history of every
country in the world". Here, you'll find excellent resources to information about any
country on Earth! Recommended.
"Social Studies" at InfoPlease : get all kinds of information on the United States and
other countries. A great web page if you need some interesting factual tidbits to
spice up your homework paper.
Territories, Colonies, and Dependencies : another good InfoPlease page! This one
lets you find out which countries are actually run by (and defended by) other
countries. Lots of cool, largely unknown tidbits of information here!
World Civilizations : an outstanding world cultures site maintained by the Washington
State University. Here you an learn all the basics -- and more -- about dozens of
cultures. Be to take some time to browse through all this site has to offer -- it's
awesome! Highly recommended.

Amnesty International : an excellent resource for information about crimes that are being
committed by various countries against foreigners as well as against their
own citizens.
Bureau of Justice Statistics : located within the U. S. Department of Justice web site,
this sub-site offers excellent statistics on crime and justice in America.
College & University Campus Crime Statistics : serves as a gateway to the crime
statistics for many major U. S. universities and colleges. Very eye-opening
stuff here!
Crime and Clues : a superb site that gives excellent information on the tools and
techniques used by law enforcement to solve crimes. Recommended.
Crime Prevention Unit : a simply designed site that, nonetheless, has good information
and resources regarding crime prevention.
Criminal Justice : a highlight of some of the crime-related cases pursued by the
American Civil Liberties Union. Very interesting.
Disaster Center : U. S. Crime Statistics : get national and state crime statistics for the
past several years.
Evidence : The True Witness : a really cool site that provides educational information
about DNA testing, fingerprinting, poison analysis (toxicology) and a host of other
crime-solving techniques. Recommended.
F. B. I. (Federal Bureau of Investigation) : learn about the nation's most wanted
criminals, on-going major crime investigations, and lots of other crime-related stuff
right here from the FBI! And no, they don't have an X-Files page...  ;)
Forensic Art : learn how forensic artists recreate the appearance of people long after
those people have died. Kinda spooky, but interesting.
Interpol : an awesome site run by the International Criminal Police Organization. Learn
about types of international crimes, DNA testing, criminal intelligence analysis,
terrorism, and much, much more! Highly recommended.
"Law Enforcement and Crime" from InfoPlease : get good info on crime statistics,
capital punishment, crime trends, and enforcement procedures.
National Crime Prevention Council : a good site containing basic information on how
to avoid becoming a crime victim.
Organized Crime: A Crime Statistics Site : learn about where crime statistics come
from and how accurate they tend to be. This site also has links to other crime
statistics pages from the university level to the international level.
Routine Autopsy : provides writers with an understanding of autopsies (examining dead
people to figure out what caused them to die). Eerie -- but informative if you want to
learn about this rather creepy aspect of police and medical investigation.
United States Department of Justice Official Web Site : check out the "What's Hot"
link on this cool site to learn what legal issues are currently causing the nation's
lawyers to burn their midnight oil! Very informative.

Banned Books On-line : a good review of certain books that various communities have
tried to ban despite the United States' credo of freedom of speech and
expression.

the groups and organizations that try to deny Americans their right to freedom of
speech and freedom of expression.
Controversies in Free Speech : this Northwestern University page contains good info
on freedom of speech involving the media, sex, commerce, art, and more.
